Gregory Simpkins is the Executive Director of the African Merchants Association. Before going into the private sector, Gregory worked for the government as a Senior Advisor in the Africa Bureau at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) focusing on trade and helping with the operational management of the Trump’s Initiative Prosper Africa. Prior to USAID, as a Staff Director he advised on policy issued, arranged Congressional hearings, drafted legislations for the Chairman for the US House subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations. He was instrumental on the passing of AGOA as he served on the same subcommittee from 1997-1998, he reported on the election processes in Kenya, South Africa, Liberia, Guinea and Equatorial Guinea. Gregory has written articles on Africa, reported from Capitol Hill, White House and State Department; and has engaged in public speaking on political and economic topics at the Voice of America (VOA), British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), and US Foreign Service Institute.
